BIOGRAPHY

Clarinetist Travis Hogue-Smith maintains a progressing and versatile career not only as an artist, but also as an artistic administrator and creative designer. He currently holds positions with the Cleveland Winds, Ekklésia Reed Quintet (Ohio’s first professional reed quintet), and the Miami Classical Music Festival.


As an artistic administrator, Travis is currently the Director of Operations and project manager for the Miami Classical Music Festival, Marketing and Social Media Director for the Ekklésia Reed Quintet, Music Librarian for both the Cleveland Winds and Cleveland State University Wind Ensemble. In the past he has served as the assistant to the Chair of Fine Arts at Barry University for several years.


As a musician, Mr. Hogue-Smith is the Bass Clarinetist for Ohio's first professional reed quintet, the Ekklésia Reed Quintet, and a member of the award winning Cleveland Winds professional wind band ensemble. He has been a guest performer with the Cleveland Women's Orchestra, The Cleveland Opera, and the South Beach Chamber Ensemble orchestra.

Travis is currently a member of Bobby Davis’ clarinet studio seeking an Artist Diploma from the Cleveland State School of Music. He received his master’s of music degree from Cleveland State University and his Bachelor of Music Degree from Barry University in Miami Florida. His previous teachers have included Dr. Ellen Breakfield-Glick, Dr. Matthew Taylor, and Philip May.


A native of San Antonio, Texas, Hogue-Smith’s first serious clarinet studies were with former Principle clarinetist of the Galveston Symphony, Philip May, before he moved to Miami, Florida to pursue his bachelor’s degree in clarinet performance as a student of Dr. Matthew Taylor whom he also studied saxophone, flute, and compositional studies under. While in Miami, Travis had the privilege to partake in coachings with the principle of the Nu Deco Ensemble, Dr. Annabelle Inhyung Hwang, and Florida International University adjunct clarinet professor, Dr. Jesse Gilday.


While studying at Barry University, Travis studied closely under the musicality and direction of Dr. Beverly Coulter and Dr. Giselle Rios, Mia Vassilev, and Dr. Daniel Darroca. As a musician in the Miami area, Travis made multiple appearances with the South Beach Chamber Ensemble in operatic and musical productions, worked closely with the St. Martha’s Concert Series, Shepard & Ruth K. Broad Performing Arts Center, and the Frost School of Music clarinet choir at the University of Miami.
